Production process

Raw gypsum lumps are broken into small pieces, sieved and assorted in different sizes and then washed thoroughly to get rid of clay and other impurities contained therein. The washed gypsum is then calcined at a temperature of about 120 deg. -140 deg to convert it into plaster of Paris. The white material so obtained is further pulverized and sieved through a 60-80-mesh sieve. This powder is the main ingredient in the manufacture of chalk. The powder is then mixed with water in an enamel basin and brought to the consistency of thick slurry. The slurry is then poured into the mould perforations, where it sets & gets hardened within 5-10 minutes. The mould with its contents is then taken out from its frame in tact, and the chalk sticks are slowly removed and placed on trays for drying.
